In 1989, a king of Australopithecus has been found in the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River, which has been confirmed as the member of immediate forebear of people. It also called the Homo erectus.

In Yangtze River history, the Changyang people fossil that could be date back to 100000 years ago belongs to the early Homo sapiens in the Paleolithic Age. It was found in Hubei Province.

In Yangtze River history, the Ziyang people fossil that could date back to 10000-100000 years ago belongs to late Homo sapiens in the Paleolithic Age. It was found in Sichuan Province.
